Ninia
Benjamin is one of the BBC’s hottest new comedians most recently crowned the
Winner of Celebrity
Scissorhands 2007 (BBC3) in which she and a host of
celebrities cut and styled their way through two weeks in a
televised salon, raising thousands of pounds for Children in
Need. Ninia's no-nonsense, warm personality meant that she
was popular both with the other other contestants and television
audiences.
Ninia is best known for starring in
the BBC3 flagship show (which transferred to BBC2 and BBC America)
‘3 Non-Blondes’, which, due to its phenomenal success went to
a second series which also showed on all three channels as well as
around the world. As part of the 3 Non-Blondes she was also seen
in Lenny Henry’s BBC1 prime-time show ‘Len on the One’.
Ninia presented a new BBC3 show, ‘Gory Greek Gods’, filmed on
location in Greece in July 2004, and her talents were on display
again in BBC3’s drama, ‘Spinechillers’. Ninia has also
performed death-defying stunts on Sky One’s
‘Cirque Du Celebrity’,
Ninia
has had numerous TV appearances from guest spots on ‘Richard & Judy’, ‘Liquid News’
(BBC3), ‘RISE’ (C4), ‘Pure Soap’ (BBC3), ‘Celebdaq’
(BBC3), ‘All I want for Christmas’, ‘The 100 Greatest TV
Treats of 2003’ (C4), ‘Morning Glory’ (C4) and repeat times
on ‘Big Brother’s Little Brother’ (C4) in addition to
featuring as a contestant on 'Celebrity The Weakest Link'.
Recent appearances include Celebrity Ready Steady Cook and
co-presenting Sky Comedy Close-Up for Sky Movies.
Described
by The Voice newspaper as “the comedy assassin”, Ninia is
certainly not shy in her approach to her subjects. Although she
doesn’t carry a gun, Ninia’s wit and cheeky persona are sure
to kill any daring heckler’s attempts stone dead. Armed with a
big smile, Ninia’s warmth both onstage and off lets her get away
with absolute murder.
Ninia’s
popularity as a stand-up comedian across the country at venues
such as Jongleurs Clubs, Up the Creek, The Banana Cabaret, Glee
Clubs and Bound & Gagged has grown quickly and she now
headlines many clubs. She has spread her talents overseas and has
enjoyed a successful run at the Cape Town Comedy Festival in South
Africa.
Ninia’s
talents don’t stop at stand-up. She has significant experience
as an actress and has starred in a wide variety of plays such as a
stage production of ‘Malcolm X’ and ‘A Yorkshire Tragedy’
(The Royal Court Theatre). Ninia has played the lead role in the
record-breaking run of ‘Waiting to Inhale’ at the Theatre
Royal and ‘Woman on Top’ at the Hackney Empire. Ninia has also
appeared in Michael Barrymore’s ‘My Kind of People’, ‘The
day that changed my life’ and BBC2’s ‘Black Briton’.
Most recently, Ninia has taken on the role of Sarah Holloway in
the BBC radio drama, Silver Street, to be broadcast next year.
